Full Name:
Ouraduran "Warren" DuPlessis
Nicknames/Aliases:
Ouraduran the Red, The Cardinal Flame
Species:
Spellcaster
Allegiance:
With the Council
Job:
Elected representative of Spellcasters to the Council of 14.
Family:
Warren has an extremely vast family with, at last count, 145 aunts and uncles, over 500 nieces and nephews, two teenage sons, Mobern and Axer DuPlesis, and three teenage daughters, Mumba, Arda and Aberu DuPlessis. Both of his grandparents are still alive, as is his father, who was widowed in the midst of an attack on their village by the were-panthers. Warren's own wife, Lladia, was killed while attempting to rescue human villagers in the midst of an earthquake.
Age:
138
Appearance:
Height: 6'8"
Weight: 228 lbs.
Eyes:Brown
Hair:Black
Hair Style:straight, shoulder length.
Any distinguishing features: He has a small gold hoop earring in each ear, a gold stud in his right nostril, and a gold stud in the middle of his tongue. He is never without a necklace made of real animal bones he wears around his neck.
Usual Clothing: A full-body red robe with a yellow tassel tied around the waist as a belt, and brown sandals.
Preferred Weapon: His mage's staff is an enormous piece of petrified wood the size of a baseball bat with a clear crystal ball at its crown. Aside from its spellcasting abilities, it is also a very sturdy melee weapon.
Powers/Abilities:
-Absorbs the rage of others into his body, which, when coupled with his own, can increase his strength and stamina to superhuman levels.
-Uses his own rage to increase his body heat, which, with the aid of a natural flame, is capable of igniting fires. Since Warren is essentially the fuel of the fire, he is immune to the flame he produces, though he can be burned by any other type of flame.
-Manifesting others' rage into non-living ghost-like entities which re-absorb themselves into others causing unpredictable emotional outbursts.
Weaknesses
-Warren is pretty easily manipulated. A crooked person would be capable of distorting his personal code of honor easily enough to take full advantage of him. He is also more sentimental than he lets on and will risk himself to save the honor of people who are endangered because of him.
-Warren's powers each have distinct weakness: He cannot grow stronger off of others' rage if they know to stay calm around him. The flames he creates can be extinguished with ordinary water, and cannot be ignited if he is wet. He cannot cause harm with the emotions of those cruel enough to have no remorse for their past actions.
-Warren often gets helplessly intertwined with the social and political whims of others in his intellectual pursuits, and often gets led into traps through red-herrings left by unscrupulous people who take advantage of his curiosity.
-Despite his advanced age, Warren is not supernatural in any other way unless he is using his powers. In normal situations he will bleed if you prick him, to say the least.
Other skills and talents:
Warren is a genius when it comes to the manipulation of non-living magic. He can concoct potions, pills, powders, and any other number of magical digestibles capable of nearly every effect within the boundaries of logical magic. He can make love potions, truth serums, undetectable poisons, and medicines that curb the cravings of vampires as well as revert lychens into their original form in mid-transformation (Though the trick is getting them to take it.) All of his wares are available to anyone for a price, which in Warren's sensibility is not always money, but occasionally cooperation in helping the mage further his supernatural experimentations.
Personality:
Despite the tempermental nature one with his magical ability requires, Warren is generally a very even-tempered person. He often appears stern, standing completely upright with his arms crossed and a scowl over his face, but upon engaging him in conversation his demeanor is actually very warm, and additionally he is somewhat witty. His voice is a deep timber, and he speaks with a heavy accent. Warren considers himself a scientist, or at least as much as a magic user can consider himself a scientist. The wealth of Apocathacarial breakthroughs he's made stands as evidence to this dedication.
Warren is tied to a strong philosophy of reciprocation he has had since childhood in that every thing a person does to him and vice-versa has to be repaid with a deed equal to the nature of the original. In that respect, Warren sees himself incapable of really loving or hating anyone, and he does good or bad things to people based on what they did to him on a case-by-case basis. When he does feel the need to become rage full it is only for a short period of time to make use of his powers, and for good reason: while using his powers he becomes needlessly cruel, brutal, and savage. He often avoids using his magic altogether since he feels he'll pay karmically if he does. However, this is not to say that the proper situation hasn't come up once...or twice. As a leader, Warren is helpful, fair and noble, but he is often reluctant to launch pre-emptve attacks against the enemy, since he believes that will allow fate to reciprocate against the council in the same way.
Background/History:
Warren was born into a tribe of mages in a mage-centric area of Africa known as "The Motherland." In The Motherland, it is said that the first magic-based civilizations emerged, and Warren's tribe in particular was one of the oldest still surviving. The ability to survive in an African mage tribe is based on adherence to the same laws of reciprocation Warren adheres to today. However, given that murders were often reciprocated upon by murders that were reciprocated upon by murders, Warren's home was a rather unsafe place in which to live. Warren grew to young-adulthood in this environment and learned to slow his aging at about age 30, all the while simply trying to avoid his own murder from people holding a grudge against his family for reasons so old, the assailants didn't even fully understand them. Things were made worse when Warren manifested the ability to manipulate the emotions of others causing within his attackers a mania that only caused more bloodshed among the tribes. Warren had no choice but to leave his home to spare the lives and minds of his homeland.
Warren moved to Great Britain and integrated into their society, learning English and making a name for himself as a potions master. As he lived, his village thrived, and his extended family grew in great numbers. Warren himself wed at age 19, and had a fruitful relationship with his wife, an English mage named Lladia McCalister. Their marriage brought Warren many happy years and brought him his five children. Unfortunately, during an unnatural earthquake in the heart of Great Britain, Warren and his wife made their magery known to the public in attempt to save as many lives as possible, only to have Lladia parish while rescuing a group of schoolchildren from a collapsing subway. Warren's grief, coupled with pressure by the then council representative, and Warren's father in law, Laharl McCalister, forced Warren and his children to go underground.
Warren and his children became servants to the council under McCalister, until McCalister announced his retirement. Warren nominated himself for the replacement position and ran uncontested. Despite McCalister's protests, Warren became the Spellcaster's representative in the council of 14. In doing so he became the first magician from the Motherland to hold the seat, and the first practitioner of red magic, something that is upsetting to some magic users because of the volatile nature of red magic. So far Warren has proved himself capable besides these criticisms, but he nightly worries about the fate of the world, now that he has a say in it.
Sample RP: Warren looked out of his chamber window. It was 3:00 AM, or at least it seemed so. Things that happened within the council walls made it seem as though time stood still. It was his internal clock that told him how early it was. That, and the sound of his children's snoring in the smaller room across from his.
Warren inhaled, filling his lungs with the cold air of his room and mved away from the window, sitting down at a small cherrywood desk. He scrawled with a feathered quill on several pieces of light brown parchment. Notes. Observations. Warren was full of them at any time of the day, but was more inclined to act on them in the early hours of the morning, when nobody else was awake. As soon as a sufficient number of people were roused, Warren would have their problems to solve, but for now, he only had his own. "Hm...." He breathed in again, and made several more scratches on his notes. The drawing of the sun revolving around the Earth, and its circumferential pattern was met with a doodle o a tic-tac-toe board. Warren temporarily wondered if that was due to some sort of genius eccentricity he developed. He grinned. Then he returned to his notes.
