Other skills and talents:
Just the fact that he’s so old and he has a penchant for book studies makes him an incredibly intelligent individual.
Personality:
Gentai is a chameleon personality-wise. He constantly jumps from mirthful, to pleasant, to businesslike, to grim, to outright sociopathic and back again, sometimes within the same conversation. He confesses that he must have gone insane after so many years of being undead, but in reality he is not. Gentai is a very shrewd and calculating person. He has pride in his powers and makes use of them to get what he wants out of everyone. However, he is not power-hungry, nor is he an inhuman monster. Given the choice between peace and providence, Gentai would always choose to be left to his own designs. He feels forced by the vampiric social society to be the manipulator he is. Having been the one responsible for turning Seven, he watches over him and protects the young vampire from the machinations of other higher-ranking vampires. He sees Seven as a kindred spirit, a confidant, and may even feel for him in a deep, emotional way, though he always denies that he truly cares about him.
Background/History:
Gentai was the son of a Daimyo in the last dying era of Japan’s Edo period. Gentai was turned by a murderous vampiric cur, who granted him his unlife in recognition of Gentai’s then fear of death. At first a recluse, Gentai watched his father’s empire fall. Once he was finished with that, Gentai moved west and found a new home in England. He dwelled in a vampiric halfway-house and made a living as a petty thief, throwing every coin he made that didn’t pay his keep to the court of King Xander. He didn’t know why: perhaps it was he found the queen to be attractive. There is also something to be said about sucking up to people in power so you can be recognized for your talents and given a position you rightly deserve.
However, after so many years of empty tributes, Gentai grew bored of the court’s apparent disinterest in him, and he decided to settle down and make his own life. At the nearest graveyard, Gentai found an orphaned boy whom he led into a dark alley and turned in hopes of having a companion. As soon as he did, however, he was met by King Xander and given a position in his court. Blinded by the opportunity, Gentai immediately left for Nex Iugum, leaving Seven behind at the same halfway house.
Gentai worked for years in service to King Xander and was ultimately rewarded for his loyalties with a position right at the king’s side. At the moment of his triumph, however, he again saw Seven, dwelling within Nex Iugum, and, beside himself with guilt, began to stalk him. He is now divided by his loyalties to the court and his morbid interest in the vampire he left behind. It will all end in tears.
Sample RP:
Gentai casually twisted his head from one side to another as Seven crossed the street. The young vampire wouldn’t see him as a threat, not while he was in the form of an old lady in a knit sweater, holding a purse. Seven crossed the street. Gentai backed down an alley. He re-emerged in the form of a teenager in goth attire smoking a cigarette. He let out a drag of mist and sighed. ‘This isn’t working,’ he thought to himself. ‘It doesn’t matter how close I get to him this way, I’ll always be too far away.’
Gentai did an about-face and walked the other way. Pretty soon, King Xander would be wondering where he is, so he shifted into his usual form, this time in plain view of a couple stunned humans. He looked up at the full moon and grinned. ‘Perhaps a change of strategy is in order.’
